CQT hosts Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister

Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean toured the Centre for Quantum Technologies on 26 September with a delegation from the National Research Foundation (NRF), Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance.

Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, President of the National University of Singapore, hosted the visit with CQT's Deputy Director Lai Choy Heng, Principal Investigators and staff.

DPM Teo visited in his capacity as Chairman of NRF. NRF leads the national Research Centres of Excellence program, under which CQT was established. CQT was the first such centre, launched in 2007, with funding for an initial ten years. The Centre has since been extended for a further five years, through to 2022.

CQT research projects highlighted during the visit included:

• participation in the NUS-Singtel Cyber Security R&D Laboratory
• work on quantum satellites towards global quantum communication networks
• an atomic clock being designed with the goal of being the world's most accurate
• devices built at the Centre including a quantum random number generator and ion traps
