Singapore's National Quantum Scholarships Scheme

This page provides detailed information about the National Quantum Scholarships Scheme (NQSS), which is administered by the Centre for Quantum Technologies. 

Students enrolled in the programme will earn a degree from one of the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore or Singapore University of Technology and Design, depending on the location of their main thesis advisor.

Terms

 

  • The monthly stipend for international students is S$4,500, which will be revised to S$5,000 upon passing the qualifying exam; for Singapore citizens, the respective amounts are S$5,500 and S$6,000, and they also receive the prevailing employer's contribution to CPF; for Singapore Permanent residents, the respective amounts are $5,000 and $5,500.
  • Annual tuition fees and mandatory miscellaneous fees.
  • A one-off allowance of up to S$2,500 towards airfare for travel to Singapore for international students.
  • Other allowances of up to S$17,500 which includes academic travel, one-off expense towards a computer and the purchase of books.
  • Allowances must be used during the period of candidature, subject to prior approval of all expenses.

Eligibility

 

  • Open worldwide.
  • Graduates with a passion for research in quantum information.
  • Graduates with at least good 2nd Upper Honours, or equivalent qualifications.

Application Procedure

 

Application is open throughout the year.

 

To start the application process, the applicant would need to contact one of the Principal Investigators (PIs) or CQT Fellows and request if he/she could supervise you. More details on the CQT PIs and CQT Fellows can be found at https://www.quantumlah.org/people 

 

The CQT PI/Fellow and you should decide on a preliminary project. Once they have agreed to advise you and decided on a project, please forward the approval email from the CQT PI/Fellow to cqtphd@nus.edu.sg. Upon receipt of the approval email, you will receive more instructions on how to submit your application. Please have ready the below documents:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement
  • A certified true copy of your NRIC or Passport
  • Certified true copies of award/prizes and certificates (if any)
  • Submission of GRE scores / TOEFL scores / IELTS scores is optional.
  • OpenCerts (if available) or Certified true copies of university transcripts and degree scrolls.
  • Contact information for two referees
  • One soft copy of a passport-style photograph taken within the last 3 months, clear and in focus.
  • Any other supporting documents that could strengthen your application.

 

Important Notes:

 

1. The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake student recruitment on its behalf. Candidates interested in our graduate programs are advised to apply directly to the University and not through any agents. Candidates who apply through agents will not have any added advantage in gaining admission and the University reserves the right to reject such applications without giving reasons.
