For quantum computers to realize their potential, the maximum achievable number of qubits needs to be scaled up. The two leading quantum computing platforms (superconducting qubits and trapped ions) can achieve about 50 qubits at most, and scaling them up is challenging.
We are investigating a novel approach to quantum computing with trapped neutral atoms. Once realized, this scheme could straightforwardly be scaled up significantly larger than existing quantum computing schemes.
