Take a virtual trip back in time to attend the Workshop on Interdisciplinary Frontiers of Quantum and Complexity Science.

Held in Singapore 8-12 January 2017, the workshop organised by CQT's Mile Gu, Vlatko Vedral, Jayne Thompson and Andrew Garner was attended by some 45 scientists. Videos of the conference presentations are now available to watch online.

The workshop was organized as part of the John Templeton Foundation Project, 'Occam's Quantum Mechanical Razor: Can Quantum theory admit the Simplest Understanding of Reality?'.

"At the outset, complexity and quantum science appear quite different. One commonly deals with networks of interacting systems on the macroscopic scale, while the describes matter at the quantum mechanical level. Yet both fields seek to understand nature by studying how it fundamentally processes information," says Mile. The meeting brought together researchers from the two fields.

Mile, who is an Assistant Professor at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Research Assistant Professor at CQT, leads the Occam's Razor project with Vlatko Vedral, one of the Centre's Principal Investigators.

The workshop was supported by the John Templeton Foundation, the Lee Foundation, the Complexity Institute at Nanyang Technological University, the National Research Foundation of Singapore and CQT at the National University of Singapore.

As well as the scientific program, the week-long event featured a public talk by Howard Wiseman of Griffth University in Australia on the subject "Are we living in The Matrix?". This talk, organised in partnership with Science Centre Singapore, can also be watched online.
